Provincial Awards

Alberta

Green Shield Award
Presented to an individual or organization whose volunteer efforts has made significant contributions to the preservation or conservation of land, water, ecosystems and/or the plants and animals that live there. Nominees for this award have invested extensive time, spanning numerous years to qualify.

Campground Host Hospitality Award
Presented to an individual or couple who through their volunteering as Campground Hosts, have consistently delivered outstanding hospitality service. Nominees have volunteered considerable hours either within whole seasons or over a number of years at one or more sites.

Special Event Volunteerism Award
Presented to the host(s) of a special event held within or on behalf of a site(s), who demonstrated effective management and meaningful involvement of volunteers, resulting in increased interest and support for parks and protected areas and/or volunteerism.

Facility Enhancement Award
Presented to individuals or organizations who have greatly contributed to the maintenance or enhancement of PPA's facility infrastructure, through volunteer efforts supporting trails, signs, buildings, etc.

Parks and Protected Areas Achievement Award
Presented to an individual who through their volunteer activities has affected a park, protected area, staff, customers, project or program in a special or significant way.

Partnership Appreciation Award
Presented to a cooperating association, partnering agency or group who through their work with Parks and Protected Areas, have made considerable contributions to PPA's programs, services or facilities.

Steward Service Excellence Award
Presented to an individual or a group identified for their long-term commitment and consistent demonstration of the spirit of stewardship. Through their dedication, positive attitude and actions, they have benefited their protected area and the Volunteer Steward Program.

Outstanding Individual Steward Award
Presented to an individual, couple or family who through recent efforts contributed considerably to the preservation and/or appreciation of their protected area (e.g. time, special project).

Outstanding Group Steward Award
Presented to a group or organization that through recent efforts, contributed considerably to the preservation and/or appreciation of their protected area (e.g. time, special project).

Teamwork Award
Presented to a business operating within a Parks and Protected Areas' site, which demonstrates a positive team attitude and approach, resulting in considerable support to a volunteer program or initiative (beyond the call of duty), enabling volunteers and PPA to better serve the interests of the public.

Start of Alberta Volunteer Award
The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards recognize extraordinary Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members. Any Albertan whose volunteer efforts have played a significant role during their lifetime is eligible. Six awards are presented annually; two in each category of youth, adult and senior.

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards Program is an integral part of government's commitment to Alberta's volunteer sector. Seeking out ways to pay tribute to volunteers is part of the Government of Alberta's way of acknowledging and thanking our volunteers whose generous efforts contribute to the vibrant quality of life Albertans so enjoy.

British Columbia

BC Community Achievement Award
The British Columbia Community Achievement Awards celebrate British Columbian's who go above and beyond in their dedication and service to others and who devote time and energy to making their communities more caring, dynamic, beautiful, healthy, and unique. They inspire by their example.

The British Columbia Community Achievement Awards are presented by the British Columbia Achievement Foundation, a foundation established in 2003 by the province of British Columbia to celebrate excellence in community service, arts and humanities.

Newfoundland and Labrador

URock Volunteer Award
The URock Volunteer Award was established in January 2010 and recognizes the contributions of young people as well as organizations with a connection to young people, who give their time and effort in a volunteer capacity for their community. Nominations could be made in two categories: individuals and organizations or non-profits. Individual nominees must have made outstanding voluntary contributions, be 30 years of age or under and a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Organizations or non-profit groups nominated must be led by young people or have made an outstanding contribution for the betterment of youth.

This award is meant to show young volunteers that they are the rock of our communities, they have a positive impact and make great things happen. It simply tells them, ‘You Rock!’"

Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Medal
In recognition of 2001 as the International Year of Volunteers, the government of Newfoundland and Labrador launched the Volunteer Medal which recognized the very important work done by volunteers throughout the province. The prestigious medal is presented to 96 individuals across the province to recognize their long-term volunteerism accomplishments.

Nova Scotia

Representative Volunteer Award
This award is given to volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution in their community. Municipalities, towns and villages select one volunteer who will come forward on behalf of all the volunteers in their area to be recognized. This award is bestowed only once to an individual.

Model Volunteer Community Award
Recognizes a community that has shown ongoing support for volunteers who have worked together as a community on a project or projects to enhance the lives of its residents, and managed, through the support of volunteers, to make their community a better place in which to live. This award is bestowed only once to a community.

Youth Volunteer of the Year
Recognizes a youth aged 13 - 24 who has made a significant contribution as a volunteer.

Corporate Volunteer Award
Recognizes a Private and Public Sector corporation that has made significant contributions through support and encouragement of employee volunteerism.

Volunteer Family Award
Non-profit organizations, community groups, businesses, individuals and municipalities may nominate a family in Nova Scotia that have made outstanding contributions as volunteers. The recipient will be a family (any combination of two or more persons what are bound together over time, living in the same community) who has demonstrated outstanding and consistent caring for the improvement of the community around them.

Yukon

The Commissioner's Award for Public/Volunteer Service
This award Honours an outstanding individual who has made a significant volunteer contribution to Yukon business, academics, arts, culture or society. This individual is recognized for work outside of their regular employment.

Youth Recognition Award
The Youth Recognition Award recognizes youth 18 years old and under who have performed an outstanding or extraordinary service for their community; and/or have made positive contributions and demonstrated leadership in their activities by volunteering their time, energy and talent for the betterment of their community.

Northwest Territories

Outstanding Volunteer Award
The Outstanding Volunteer Awards Program was established in 1991 by Municipal and Community Affairs. The awards program recognizes the important contribution that volunteers make in the Northwest Territories communities. Since 1991, awards have been presented to individuals and organizations nominated by the public for their volunteer work. By drawing attention to these volunteers, the awards also highlight the role that all Northwest Territories volunteers play.
