  • Keynote: Connected North – Transforming Lives Through Technology
In 2014 Cisco Canada, in partnership with over 35 corporate and NGO partners, launched Connected North. A high definition Telepresence video network, Connected North brings northern communities together and links them with organizations, experts, teachers, students, doctors, mental healthcare providers and many others across Canada and around the world. Connected North has two main goals: to make the classroom more dynamic and engaging and to provide virtual Youth Mental Health services on-demand. Connected North began with one pilot school in Iqaluit and scaled quickly to schools in Nunavut, Ontario, the North West Territories, Saskatchewan and Alberta. This year over 30 schools will be part of the Connected North network.  Willa Black will tell the Connected North story, and explain how many partners came together with a shared vision for capacity building in communities across Canada’s north.

Participants will then explore at their tables how the public, private, and non-profit sectors can better collaborate on addressing pressing social, economic, and environmental public policy issues. We will end with a plenary discussion on what we all need to do to make that happen.
