Volunteers have always played a key role in supporting newcomers to Canadian communities, and settlement organizations continue to involve volunteers in a range of programs and services.
It is important to have volunteer management processes in place to better match people and organizations, to ensure the quality and safety of programs and services and to reduce liabilities and risks to all concerned.
This handbook provides a general overview of the volunteer management process with a focus on volunteers supporting newcomers. It includes links to useful tools, resources and templates to help develop and implement these practices in your organization. Use this handbook as a road map to create or update policies, procedures and practices to fit your organization.
This handbook was developed by Volunteer Canada and the Volunteer Action Centre of Kitchener-Waterloo and Area for the Horizontal Policy and Program Division within the IntegrationForeign Credentials Referral Office (I-FCRO) at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
