Coast Capital Savings

The Challenge

Coast Capital was looking to evolve their employer-supported volunteer program in order to increase employee participation and contribute to overall employee engagement and job satisfaction.

The Solution

Volunteer Canada was engaged in the Fall of 2016 to work collaboratively with Coast Capital to address the challenge by: reviewing Coast Capital’s current Employer Supported Volunteer (ESV) program through a document review, conducting an employee survey and employee focus groups; sharing an overview of industry standards, trends and best practices; recommending improved practices based on the findings and the culture at Coast Capital Savings.

The Results

In late 2018 Coast Capital Savings re-engaged Volunteer Canada to support in the development of a skills-based international volunteer program and continue to develop their programs and network through their membership in the Corporate Community Engagement Council. In 2023 77% of their people engaged in their social impact programs. The 2020 Help Heroes Employee Volunteer Program was awarded the Social Responsibility Award by the Canadian Credit Union Association at its annual National Credit Union Awards and in 2024 was awarded a Goodness Award for boldness and creativity by Benevity.
